SENCOs lead the coordination of provision for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities in schools. The consultation should be completed by all those who have an interest in the role of the SENCO.
This consultation includes a draft specification for courses of nationally accredited SENCO training (annexes 1, 2 and 3). The specification is based on teachers demonstrating a minimum level of knowledge, understanding and skills set out in the national specification.
Please give us your views on:
- the introduction and guidance for training providers on how to apply for approval to offer nationally accredited training for SENCOs
- the requirements training providers will need to meet to be approved to offer nationally accredited SENCO training, including the minimum outcomes teachers successfully completing the training will be required to demonstrate
The consultation is divided into four sections. To complete every section you will need to read annexes 1, 2 and 3, which you can download from this page. Please respond to the consultation by 15 October 2008.
