Test format

The test will focus on a scenario set in the context of your professional role as a teacher. This could include addressing e-safety issues, professional training, events in the school calendar, educational visits, organisations visiting schools, school productions, school publications, school clubs and organisations, and links between schools.
  • The test consists of four real-life tasks based around various professional scenarios.
  • Each task further consists of four connected sub-tasks.
  • At the beginning of the test, you will have an opportunity to read an outline of the context and the tasks to be completed. The tests have been designed to allow a few minutes reading and planning time.

Test length: 35 minutes (unless special arrangements have been made).

It is recommended that you familiarise yourself with the test format and navigation by practicing the downloadable benchmark and practice tests available.

  • The tasks are completed using applications which provide the generic features and functions commonly available in commercially available equivalents.
  • The tasks are designed to be similar in both length and number of marks.
  • On the right hand side of the screen a task bar will be visible, allowing you to follow the guidance and instructions required for you to navigate your way through the test.

To carry out the tasks in the test, it is assumed that you have basic ICT skills, for example, desktop navigation, folder usage, knowledge of software applications and on-screen menus, highlighting, selecting and opening items using a mouse, and printing.

You should practice your ICT skills using the presentation, e-mail, text editor, spreadsheet and web browser packages most commonly available to you. The tests have been designed to relate to these packages as far as possible, in both appearance and function. If you are able to use these packages at the expected level, undertaking the test should be straightforward.
