Trainee numbers census data

The trainee numbers census is an annual data collection of trainee registrations in each academic year. The collection covers initial teacher training (ITT).

Providers of employment-based teacher training scheme (EBTTS) have their data automatically transferred from the EBTTS data management system. Therefore, they must ensure that all trainee data on the EBTTS data management system is accurate and up-to-date.

Providers offering ITT include universities and school-centred initial teacher trainers (SCITTs).

The ITT trainee numbers census is an annual data collection of trainee registrations for the academic year. The collection is a reflection of the number of ITT trainees that a provider has registered (or is planning to register) on TDA Funded ITT courses for the current academic year.

The information collected is used to:

  • determine funding and holdback for ITT providers
  • monitor the recruitment of under-represented groups in ITT
  • monitor the recruitment of new entrants against intake targets.
