These are training partnerships that are based in an HEI or a further education (FE) college, but they must involve a close partnership with schools. While the HEI is ultimately responsible for the management of the training, schools are heavily involved in selecting, training and assessing trainees. The training is funded by the TDA through the finance department of the HEI.
The training is based in schools, usually as consortia, and is organised by them. The schools design the training programme and organise its delivery. If the SCITT chooses, it can seek the involvement of an HEI or local authority (LA), but can only provide postgraduate routes that may lead to the award of QTS.
The SCITT may designate a lead school to carry out financial management and other functions. In these cases, the training is funded by the TDA through the governing body of the lead school. Alternatively, the consortium may prefer to work with a managing agent which could provide some overall management functions, including the design of the training programme and the organisation of its delivery. Organisations such as HEIs, FE colleges, local authorities, and religious or community groups may wish to play this role. In such cases, they are required to work in close partnership with the schools in the consortium. The training is funded by the TDA through the organisation designated as the managing agent.
Academic year 2010/11
The TDA allocates a specific number of postgraduate and undergraduate training places each year to accredited ITT providers. These places are for either provider-based or school-centred ITT training routes.
In April 2010, providers were notified of the revised ITT funding and allocations arrangements for 2010/11 and the number of places allocated for mainstream ITT schemes were confirmed.
In July 2010, the TDA wrote to providers regarding ITT places for 2011/12, and provision for 14-19 diploma teacher training.
In November 2010, the TDA wrote to providers regarding ITT allocations for 2011/12.
For the most recent guidance regarding mainstream allocations protocol and eligibility, please refer to the latest mainstream ITT funding manual (PDF, 112KB).
Questions regarding mainstream ITT allocations should be sent to allocations@tda.gov.uk
Mainstream holdback calculator
The TDA has developed a spreadsheet which mainstream ITT providers can use to calculate their indicative holdback for the academic year 2010/11.
The holdback calculator (Excel, 510KB) should only be used for indicative purposes to raise awareness of possible future holdback.
If you require any assistance in using the holdback calculator please e-mail the TDA funding team.
The TDA will write to all providers following the census to inform them of their provisional holdback figures, which will be based on the actual census data. Providers will be notified of their final holdback position in the summer.
Extranet
The ITT funding team have an extranet which providers can use to view their current allocations and their updated payment profile which details a breakdown of the funding they receive.
The ITT funding extranet is accessible via a secure username and password. If you require a password, please contact the funding team.
