All ITT providers must ensure:
That all entrants:
a. have the intellectual and academic capabilities needed to meet the required QTS standards;
b. possess the appropriate qualities, attitudes and values expected of a teacher;
c. can read effectively and are able to communicate clearly and accurately in standard English;
d. have met the Secretary of State’s requirements for health and physical capacity to teach.

The aim of these requirements is to ensure that, before anyone is admitted to an initial teacher training (ITT) programme, they have been deemed suitable to become a teacher and have the appropriate intellectual and academic capabilities and the personal qualities, attitudes and values to meet the qualified teacher status (QTS) standards.
