Continuing professional development (CPD)

Professional development consists of reflective activity designed to improve an individual’s attributes, knowledge, understanding and skills. It supports individual needs and improves professional practice.

There are various guidance materials you can access, including CPD guidance and What does good CPD look like? (PDF, 83KB).

As part of your marketing strategy, you may wish to register your CPD opportunities on the national CPD Database for free. Visit the CPD Database or the CPD Database pages.

Postgraduate professional development (PPD) is also one approach to sustained and systematic CPD for qualified teachers. The scheme gives participants, who must have qualified teacher status (QTS) and be teaching at a school in England, the opportunity to undertake accredited, Masters-level courses at a reduced cost at institutions across the country.
